Wood cabinetry: a blast from the past or timeless classic?

I am a big fan of wood cabinetry with a light/medium warm stain and soft gold accents. Some view this as a return to the 90s, but I don’t see it that way.

Here’s why.

Wood has always brought warmth and value to a home. While the ROI is excellent on homes with wood, the beauty of stained woodwork is simply my favorite attribute of a home.

There is nowhere for imperfections to hide when the wood is stained—the quality of the wood matters as well as the skill with which it is installed.

And white oak is a chef’s kiss, in my opinion. The graining is visible just enough without lending toward full-on rustic, and it looks beautiful stained.

I’m not talking about the yellowish-orange stain of the 90’s. I love a slightly warmer brown on the stain spectrum. I also think a cooler ash stain is pretty, but I’ve always leaned a little more toward the warm tones.

Additionally, this is why wood-look LVP flooring is the most popular choice of homeowners right now. It gives the same warmth that hardwood provides but with a third or fourth of the investment.

So, return of the 90’s? Definitely not. It’s timeless and has a well-deserved spot with the classic palettes of white and gray. (Even the gold-toned fixtures are timeless, in my opinion.)

What are your thoughts about stained cabinetry and woodwork?

A Wayfair Material List

I put together a material list for most of the items in the photo. You can find the Wayfair list HERE.

(We do not receive compensation for links clicked or items purchased. We receive a discount only for items we purchase.)

Cabinetry is not on the Wayfair material list.

We use Huntwood for our cabinetry and highly recommend them for most homeowners. The Huntwood version of the cabinets in the photo would be from their Arts & Crafts collection in a transparent stain of Spice or Oasis.

Find those HERE.

Quartz countertops are also not on the Wayfair material list.

We use ProSource as a vendor hub for sourcing most of our countertops. There is an abundance to choose from, but Calacatta is a homeowner favorite and has beautiful veining varieties like in the photo. Find those HERE.

Our favorite brand of LVP flooring is Lifeproof from Home Depot, and can be found HERE.
