Expanding your Home Into the Outdoors
It is deck season, and four-season living is my preferred lifestyle. Every home I have lived in has had a deck, porch, and/or patio.
Mornings started on our east-facing porch in a comfy wooden chair with a cup of coffee, and days ended on our west-facing porch with a blanket or sweatshirt surrounded by deck lights, watching the sunset.
Many moments in my life involved gathering with friends and family on a deck and celebrating together. Graduation parties, pre-wedding celebrations, birthdays, goodbye parties, and reunions were all spent on decks and porches.
So, it's a pleasure to have the opportunity to help families extend their living spaces into the outdoors.
You could say that decks around here fall into three categories: backyard sunshade decks, two-story decks, and custom decks.
Backyard Sun Shade Deck
These decks are great for neighborhood homes. They provide coverage from the sun while you wait for your trees to grow large enough to shade your backyard. They are the perfect size for small family gatherings, dinners on a patio set, and sunsets with beautiful deck lighting. Sunshade decks are a quick-build and a great economical option.
Two-Story Deck
A deck and a mountain home go hand in hand. The desirable views are the reason for taking on the challenge of building in the mountains, so it comes naturally to include at least a two-story deck.
Custom Decks
Custom decks are a lot of fun because they allow us to combine homeowners' wishes with our creativity and engineering. For example, this was a 3,000-square-foot deck that was remodeled down to a 1,800-square-foot deck with additional entries and under-decking storage.
Decking We Recommend
In each of the above examples, we used Fiberon Decking. We are certified installers, and you can find us on their website when searching for builders near you. We don't receive compensation for recommending Fiberon Decking products. We value using and letting homeowners know about quality home products.
Here's what we like:
1. There is a large selection of wood-look color choices.
2. They have great warranties.
3. Their website has excellent resources.
4. They encourage the use of certified installers.
5. They have a production facility in Idaho, so you can find their decking easily.
