The end result of remodeling is what you’re looking forward to, right?
You have boards full of after-photos on Pinterest. You watch TV shows with their dreamy camera shots and misty-eyed homeowners. (My two favorites are No Demo Reno and Hometown … and I promise myself I won’t tear up, but wouldn’t you know …) And, you’re reading this article about home remodeling.
We surround ourselves with the beauty of the end result, maybe, to get up the courage to begin?
That iffy beginning and middle part can feel daunting if you're unsure where to begin or how much chaos to brace for.
I'm not promising you that sawdust is comfortable, but I have some insights that will help you create your experience rather than stress from it.
I have noticed that there seem to be three main concerns among most homeowners:
Budget Concerns
Trust Concerns
What to Expect Concerns
Budget Concerns
Answer: Learn the averages in your area.
Do you know the average cost of remodeling? If not, download a few guides from contractor websites to give yourself a baseline understanding. You can also check the website costvsvalue.com to see our area's average remodeling pricing and ROI.
One of the first things we offer in the header of our website is our numbers. Our Free Resources page has guides that walk you through remodels and show our consistency in remaining within our original estimations. In addition to our reviews, we have client references sharing their experience, including budgetary, for those seriously considering working with us.
Trust Concerns
Answer: Learn how to prequalify contractors.
Do you believe hiring a contractor is a gamble? Oof! This one tugs on my heartstrings. It does not need to be a gamble. I wrote about this in my last email, but in case you missed it, you can read about how to prequalify contractors by clicking the button below! (There's also one of my best downloads on the page!)
What to Expect Concerns
Answer: Learn about contractors' processes.
What will the remodeling process be like? How uncomfortable can you expect to be, and for how long? Any contractor who tells you they don’t know and will have to see once they get the demo underway … no, immediately, no.
I’m not saying there aren’t instances, but for the large majority of homeowners, it’s been possible to know a clear timeframe you can expect. It’s also possible to keep the work areas clean and with minimal debris.
We do a lot of remodeling while homeowners stay in their homes and we have helpful tips and schedules for moments of larger inconveniences. We list timeframes for each project on our Portfolio Pages as well as in our Cost Guide Downloads. (We also go over your timeline from the beginning and list it on your client webpage.)
I'm confident that you'll be on your way to having a great remodel if you follow these tips.
You can create your experience and make it a positive one!
Cheering you on,
Shandra
