Newman Lake Home Remodel

The homeowners wanted to update their kitchen and rearrange their layout to bring a more open concept to their home.

The cabinetry and appliances were removed, and the flooring was taken down to the subfloor. The door opening, which happened to be a load-bearing wall, was widened from 2.5 feet to 6 feet, and a large header was installed to better incorporate the adjoining living room. A coffee bar with floating shelving and a beverage fridge was built into the adjoining living room near the newly widened opening to give the homeowners the natural flow they were after.

Back in the kitchen, the new layout was prepared with plumbing, electrical, and carpentry. A new island would now hold the sink and dishwasher, the fridge would be in the range’s old location, the range would be where the dishwasher previously existed, a small header for the microwave hood venting was installed, custom shelving brackets installed, and finally the wall’s drywall was repaired and given a fresh coat of paint along with the ceiling.

Next, new Huntwood cabinets were installed, with the upper cabinets getting a two-piece crown molding. Quartz countertops were templated and installed approximately one week later. During the week’s wait, laminate plank flooring was laid throughout the home, black cabinet handles were installed, can and surface lighting was installed, the trim was painted and installed, and a custom frosted glass pantry door was hung.

After the countertops were installed, the sink with a black pulldown faucet was installed in the island, and the dishwasher, range, and fridge were installed and tested for leaks. The backsplash was cut and installed in a herringbone pattern in the kitchen and a subway pattern at the coffee bar. Lastly, the home was cleaned up.

This portion of the home remodel took between 3-4 weeks to complete.
